Simulation of Electric-magnetic-thermal Coupling Characteristics of Metallized Film Capacitor Elements
Metallized film capacitors are widely used in such fields as new energy power systems
pulse power applications and electric vehicles. Accurately setting up the precise relationship between its structure and performance is crucial for revealing the response mechanisms of capacitors in various electromagnetic environments and ensuring the quality of electromagnetic energy transmission. In this paper
a full-scale electro-magnetic-thermal multi-physics coupling model of the metallized film capacitor elements is constructed. The intrinsic mechanisms of the influence of component geometry and material properties on capacitor losses and magnetic characteristics are thoroughly analyzed. The calculated values of the model and the experimentally measurement values are compared and analyzed through the temperature rise test of the capacitor elements
showing that they have good consistency in both variation trends and steady-state temperatures and validating the accuracy of the model. Based on this model
the numerical predictions of the electrical performance parameters of the capacitor elements
including equivalent series resistance (ESR) and equivalent series inductance (ESL)
are made further and compared with experimental results. The research result in this paper has provided significant theoretical and methodological guidance for the efficient design of power devices based on multi-physics coupling.
