Suppression Effect Analysis of Metal Oxide Surge Arresters for the Switching Overvoltage of Shunt Capacitor
Metal oxide surge arrester has a remarkable effect in suppressing the switching overvoltage of shunt capacitor device. The wiring mode recommended to use by the arrester includes phase-earth arrester and arrester between terminals
respectively in short is wiring mode of type Ⅰ and type Ⅱ. In this paper
based on EMTP-ATP program
the suppression result of switching overvoltage of shunt capacitor by the wiring mode of type Ⅰ and Ⅱ arrester are simulated and calculated. It is concluded by the simulation and calculation that the wiring mode of type Ⅱ arrester
in case of opening reignition
can not only limit the overvoltage between phases to earth
but also limit the overvoltage between poles
obtain the best result and can be a kind of ideal protection mode. But the arrester between phases with this wiring mode needs to absorb much energy in operation.
