This method takes capaci-tive voltage and output current of system as original signal and the prediction model of MLS-SVM is estab-lished in accordance with historical operation data. The fault detection and identification system of the sen-sor is set up by the use of predictive output of MLS-SVM model and residual signal output by the actual sen-sor. After the fault of sensor

usethe predictive output of MLS-SVM model instead of the detection value ofthe actual sensor as the feed input of the closed loop so to achieve the fault tolerant control of the soft closedloop. The test and analysis are performed on the sample of one unit of three cascades STATCOM. It isshown by the result that the method has perfect correctness and real time performance.
